There is a wealth of news online about metals to invest in, but it's difficult for investors to know what information to listen to. The price of gold is going up? The price of gold is staying the same? The price of gold is going down? And that's just one investment. Anyone can put up a website and call themselves an expert. And consider the other challenge: There are so many potential investments online, how do you find the right one and do thorough due diligence to make sure that you understand it enough to know if and when to invest.
So, if an investor wants to make the best investing decisions in any resource, and in gold and silver particularly, they need to seek out trusted sources – authorities in the field who are recognized and credible. That's what makes resource investment conferences so meaningful to investors. They not only bring together a group of respected and credible authorities, but they can also introduce investors face-to-face with potential investments that might interest them.
Cambridge House specializes in exactly that. Cambridge House is a Canadian organization that produces resource investment conferences and they've lined up conferences for 2010 in Vancouver British Columbia, Phoenix Arizona, Calgary Alberta, Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Toronto Ontario, and Montreal Quebec.
I had an opportunity to speak to Howard Fitch, President of Cambridge House. We spoke about the upcoming Phoenix Investment Conference that will be held Thursday, February 4th and Friday, February 5th at the Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa in Glendale Arizona.
In this conference, more than 20 expert market analysts who are well-known in the sector will come together to deliver keynotes, panel discussions, and workshops. And, investors can meet face-to-face with over 50 companies who will be exhibiting. While this isn't the largest conference that Cambridge House puts on – their flagship Vancouver conference has more than 40 analysts and more than 250 exhibiting companies – the Phoenix Investment Conference is a focused conference that offers investors the chance to hear specifically about gold and silver.
"We're referring to this as 'the gold and silver showcase'," says Mr. Fitch. "We have some speakers specific to the Phoenix conference that you won't find in other conferences that we put on. We've got the participation of Euro Pacific Capital who will be providing a couple of their speakers – Thomas Tan and Andrew Schiff. These and many of the other speakers in this conference don't typically do our Canadian conferences. They are specific to Phoenix. We have a good roster of speakers who will be more focused on gold and silver, compared to the more broader-based commodity metals that our other conferences focus on."
Just a few of the many speakers include Chris Powell of the Gold Antitrust Action (GATA) Committee, David Morgan of the Silver Investor, John Morgan of the Bottom Fishing Report, Peter Grandich of the Grandich Letter, and more. Each speaker has been handpicked because of their respected authority in the area of gold, silver, or the resources sector in general. Conference attendees will hear market analysis, sector insight, and authoritative forecasting and predictions about what the economy as a whole and the gold and silver markets, specifically, will do in the coming months and years.
Companies will be exhibiting for conference attendees, as well. "A few are only in Phoenix – like American coin and metals dealers – but predominantly it will be resource exploration and development companies that trade on the Canadian exchange." Companies include Altius Minerals Corp. (TSX: ALS), Bravo Venture Group (TSX.V: BVG), Commerce Resource Group (TSX.V: CCE), Endeavor Silver Group (TSX: EDR), and Eurasian Minerals (TSX.V: EMX), just to name 5 of the more-than 40 exhibitors.
There's an advantage for investors to attend the conference in February. It's the same advantage that investors gain from attending January's Vancouver Resource Investment Conference: "What you find in the resource sector is that there's some seasonality to the investments. You come to December and there's tax loss selling and the stocks come down a bit but then you come into January and the New Year is ahead of you. Everybody wonders where the market is going to be headed in 2010. For example, the price of gold has recently been hitting new highs so people wonder if that will carry on in the New Year? What about the price of other metals and commodities like copper, lead, zinc? Is the demand going to be there from China and India to keep these commodities moving upward?"
It's important, too, to "meet face-to-face with the company's CEO's and Presidents to get an idea of where their investment dollars are being put to use," says Mr. Fitch.
On the Thursday evening of the conference, there is a GATA Gala Dinner (tickets are extra; not covered by the admission fee to the conference) and the fine dining will be accompanied by speakers.
Investors should not rely on others to make their investing decisions for them. Instead, they need to seek out information and perform their own due diligence. Cambridge House's conferences, like this gold and silver focused conference in Phoenix, provide just the venue needed for investors to hear the insight they need.
